Dorothy Wysaski was a senior at the Washington State University College of Veterinary Medicine when she adopted her first bulldog, H.R., a patient being treated for an incurable skin disease at the veterinary school hospital. The owners, who bred and showed bulldogs, ended up giving the dog to her, and after he died, gave her a second bulldog.
Dr. Wysaski purchased her third bulldog as a show prospect, finishing her American Kennel Club championship in 1973. By 2008, Dr. Wysaski had finished her seventh AKC champion, Paradox H.R. Franklin D Reitz, from the Bred By Exhibitor class.
Dr. Wysaski has long been an avid dog trainer and exhibitor, earning numerous titles since qualifying for her first obedience title in 1971, the same year she completed her degree in veterinary medicine and joined the Bulldog Club of America. She put her first tracking title on a bulldog in 1991, first showed a bulldog to an agility title in 2000 and qualified with a bulldog for her first rally title in 2005.
In 2002, Dr. Wysaski’s Paradox Berry Melrose, called “Cranberry,” became the breed’s first qualifier for the AKC’s Versatile Companion Dog title, having earned two agility titles, an obedience title and a tracking title.
Dr. Wysaski is currently training and showing Paradox H.R. Jake Plummer, AX, AXJ, AXP, XJP, and Paradox H.R. Wally Newbill, RN, NJP. “Plummer” and another of Dr. Wysaski’s dogs, Paradox Speed Skater, CD, RE, NA, NAJ, AXP, XJP, called “Figgy,” qualify for the BCA’s recently renamed Companion Hall of Fame, based on the former Obedience Hall of Fame and expanded to recognize achievements in agility and tracking.
Active for a number of years in bulldog rescue, Dr. Wysaski has served as the veterinary advisor for the Bulldog Club of America Rescue Network since 2007.
Dr. Wysaski operates a veterinary practice in Colorado. In addition to training and showing in obedience, rally and tracking, Dr. Wysaski is licensed to judge AKC rally events. Using the “Paradox” prefix to identify her line, she breeds a bulldog litter every two or three years.
